Emily Lorenzen lives in a small town in Illinois. She is a big fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Walking Dead. When Emily is not at school she uses her free time on her two favorite activities; writing and drawing. By her own admission, Emily is really into all things creepy…she just wouldn’t want to experience them in person.

How long have you been writing? Did any person, book, or movie inspire you to write?

I have been writing since middle school. I loved the idea of bringing something to life inside someone’s mind like many books, I’ve read, did. J.K Rowling really got me into writing.

Where did you get inspiration for your new spin on a classic fairy tale?

I literally just started to write and the idea for the whole thing came to me so I finished it up with my idea. If that makes any sense.

If you could live in any book world for one week, what fictional place would you choose and why? What does your world look like?

I would definitely choose Harry Potter. I love the idea of all the magical things and just everything about it.

What excites you most about being chosen by Alternate Ending Publications to take part in this innovative anthology project?

I am most excited about being put out there and letting people get a chance to read what I have written. If they like my story then I would know to write more and maybe someday become an official author.

What was your favorite fairy tale growing up?

It would have to choose Beauty and The Best. It is just the most beautiful type of romance, in my opinion. I love how a human was able to love a beast which actually shows that its not all about looks but personality.

What is your favorite genre to read and what makes you gravitate to that particular type of story?

Fantasy all the way. Love all the things that get made up.

Why do you think people are so drawn to fairy tales?

Because it takes them to a whole new world that can be so much better than ours.

What’s your next project going to be? Any hints?

I honestly have no idea. I have a ton of unfinished books where I had an idea going but just stopped writing either because I was busy or I didn’t know how I should continue it.

If you could bring one mystical or magical thing into reality what would it be?

This is a very difficult question to answer. I guess if I could really bring something to reality then it would be something that can help people/planet. I’m not sure what it would be but definitely something helpful.

What advice do you have for other kids who are interested in pursuing a path as an author? What lessons have you learned along the way?

Let your imagination go wild and never give up. I have learned that writing can be a pain but in the end it was all worth it.

Thanks for joining me, Emily! 😀
