Polaris Jimenez is the fourteen year old author of the short story Gabriel and Cosette. She is a huge fan of The Lord Of The Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia. She is an enthusiastic Fantasy lover and finds great enjoyment in writing about her very detailed dreams. Polaris is your regular teenage girl. She deals with her bad hair days and rocks her favorite pair of mismatched Chucks while grabbing people’s attention with the stories she’s created.
How long have you been writing? Did any person, book, or movie inspire you to write?
I have been writing since the age of 13. Actually two authors inspired me to write, that is, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien.
Where did you get inspiration for your new spin on a classic fairy tale?
I’ve always been in love with classic fairy tales, but after reading The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, I’ve fallen love with twists of such tales.
If you could live in any book world for one week, what fictional place would you choose and why? What does your world look like?
I think that the book world I would live in for one week would be “Alice in Wonderland”. I mean, how odd would the world be if everything was nonsense?! (Wasn’t quite sure what the question “what does your world look like?” was asking…)
What excites you most about being chosen by Alternate Ending Publications to take part in this innovative anthology project?
I think the thing that excites me the most of being chosen by Alternate Ending Publications is just that! I couldn’t have asked for anything more than for someone to just read what I have imagined in my head and for someone to like it!!!
What was your favorite fairy tale growing up?
My favorite fairy tale growing up was “Beauty and the Beast.” Belle saw the person behind the beastly mask and she fell in love with that, no matter how he looked.
What is your favorite genre to read and what makes you gravitate to that particular type of story?
My favorite genre to read is Fantasy, I just love to get drawn into a imaginary world and read about the adventures people made.
Why do you think people are so drawn to fairy tales?
I think people are drawn to fairy tales because in them anything can happen, I guess it just helps them believe that anything CAN happen, no matter what world we live in.
What’s your next project going to be? Any hints?
My next project would be a novel I have been heavy at work with even before I got this opportunity, this story involves shape-shifters and far away galaxies!
If you could bring one mystical or magical thing into reality what would it be?
If I could bring one mystical or magical thing into reality it would be a talking flower from “Alice in Wonderland”.
What advice do you have for other kids who are interested in pursuing a path as an author? What lessons have you learned along the way?
NEVER GIVE UP!!!! There will be people who try to push you back from pursuing your dream to be what you want to be, but just push back and grow stronger!!
