I have been a member of the Band for Dystopian group on Facebook for over a year, so when I heard that many of the authors that I loved reading and speaking to via online interaction were banding together to create a new world with an anthology…I was excited. I finally got my hands on a e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Prep for Doom description from GoodReads

From the imaginations of twenty authors of dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction comes PREP FOR DOOM – an integrated collection of short stories that tell the tale of a single catastrophe as experienced by many characters, some of whom will cross paths.

What begins with a seemingly innocuous traffic accident soon spirals into a global pandemic. The release of Airborne Viral Hemorrhagic Fever upon New York City’s unsuspecting populace brings bloody suffering within hours, death within a day, and spreads worldwide within a month.

An online community called Prep For Doom has risen to the top of a recent doomsday preparation movement. Some have written them off as crazy while others couldn’t be more serious about the safety the preppers could provide in a global disaster. But when AVHF strikes, their preparation may not be enough to save them.

Review:

One of the things I loved most about PFD was the fact that every short story intertwined with each other, making the entire anthology one complete plot line. I’ve read only a couple other anthologies (see my review for The Zombie Chronicles here), but this seems to be a unique idea. I would love to revisit more anthologies that have this idea in mind!

Additionally, I have found that with other anthologies, there are one or two stories that don’t make sense all the way with the theme of the anthology or are just confusing. This could me a ME problem or just my opinion, but I greatly appreciated that each author took the time to make sure their story made sense with both the plot and wasn’t too technical that a non-scientist minded individual like me could understand.

I don’t have a favorite story. . . all the characters and their hardships were both heartbreaking and inspiring, while sticking to their goal. Survive.

I cannot recommend this anthology enough.
