I can’t believe I forgot to post Tristan & Graham’s finished How to Train Your Dragon costumes! Well, here they are in all their glory. Graham’s was super easy since I found an awesome vest in the girl’s section at Target. The fluffy fabric I was going to use to make his vest shed everywhere. It was gross and annoying. The Target vest was perfect! A little pricey…but cosplaying can be pricey, yes?
Tristan’s costume is created from a fleece hoodie and additional black fleece fabric for the wings, tail, and ears. The wings have wire hangers (that have been cut and shaped) in them, which worked pretty well! I used this tutorial for the wings, with minor exceptions, which I found via this blog!
Tristan squealing in excitement in his Toothless the Dragon costume
I wish he’d put the sippy down for one minute! I want a photo!
For most of the costume design, I winged it (lame pun, sorry) and just kept sewing! The final night before Halloween in the Halls at Wisconsin Lutheran College (my old college!) I stayed up until 1AM sewing this thing. I loved how it turned out and Tristan enjoyed wearing it! I originally wanted to make the hood have light up green eyes, but they would’ve been too heavy for poor Tristan’s head.
Graham…got used to wearing the costume. He was pretty upset the first time I put the vest on him.
Oh well, he looks happy for the photos!
Plus, I got to use a skill that has been sitting unused for years. I call that a win!
